NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (Instructor Led)

The goal of this course is to introduce, practice, and apply safe and effective pistol shooting techniques. The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. Our small class size (typically two students) offers more focused and effective training for our students. We also offer Women's Only Basics of Pistol Courses.
This course meets the educational requirements for non-resident concealed carry permits for the following states: Connecticut, Florida, & Virginia
Description: The NRA Basics of Pistol Course (Instructor-Led) introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for owning and using a pistol safely.
In this course we will cover basic firearms safety, fundamentals of pistol shooting, ammunition components, malfunctions, and the key components and functionality of modern pistols. Students will practice loading, unloading, recognizing, and clearing malfunctions, proper shooting stance, grip, aiming, trigger control and follow through.
This course also includes two hours of live fire training at the range, qualification as an NRA Basic Pistol Shooter (necessary to graduate the course) and the opportunity to qualify at advanced levels, which can be used to satisfy prerequisites for advanced pistol courses.

Required Equipment:

• Eye protection
• Firearm (semi-automatic pistol or revolver).
* MUST be legal in New Jersey.
* If you do not have a firearm, we can supply you with one for the live fire portion of the training for an additional charge of $25 (Cash or Credit Card Payment On-Site).
Includes choice of two different pistols (380 auto or 9mm auto). Please contact Matt at safeactionfirearmsinstitute@gmail.com to reserve a pistol for the course as needed.
• At least one magazine for semi-automatic pistols - MUST be legal in New Jersey – 10 round capacity.
• Ammunition, please bring your own. - No reloads or handloads allowed. We recommend 200 rounds of ammo. New Jersey PTC Qualification Course Per New Guidelines September 15, 2023
Cost - $175
This 2 hour course includes both range and classroom time. Note: The qualification course will be conducted in accordance with the NJ Civilian Carry Assessment and Range Evaluation (CCARE) per the September 15, 2023 requirements. This includes demonstrating a) safe handling of the firearm, b) proper loading and unloading techniques, c) techniques of a proper concealed carry draw and d) the techniques of good marksmanship. The participant must shoot from 3, 5, 7, 10 and 15 yards and score 80% to pass. After your passing range qualification you will proceed to the classroom for Use of Force. After completing the course you will be given a certificate.
* Prerequisite: Please note this is NOT a beginner qualification. You must have general safety / operational knowledge of YOUR firearm. We highly recommend completing a Basic Pistol Training Course such as NRA Basics of Pistol (or equivalent) before taking this course. Before the qualification we will be offering a 30 minute educational overview of safe drawing / qualifying within the qualification requirements.
What to Bring:

• Magazine Holders/Pouches (Minimum: one double magazine holder or two magazine pouches)
• Holster (Must be strong side hip holster [IWB/OWB are both allowed] – no cross-draw, shoulder holsters, ankle holsters , or belly-band style holsters)
• 50 rounds of factory ammunition
• Speedloader
• Sturdy Belt
• Eye and Ear Protection.
• Jeans or BDU style pants. No Sweatpants, No shorts, No open-toed shoes.

• Use Of Force Guidelines as outlined by Interim Training For Private Citizens Concealed Carry
• Pistol qualification as outlined by the CCARE Protocol.
• This course satisfies all training requirements for the New Jersey Concealed Carry Permit.

Description:
Teaches strategies people can integrate into their everyday lives to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
A complete seminar may last as long as four or five hours and include the entire lesson plan, but a modified seminar may be as short as one or two hours and cover topics that best suit the needs of a particular audience. This is not a firearms instruction course and does not include instruction in physical combat self-defense. Seminars teach common weaknesses that criminals may take advantage of, and a variety of corrective measures that are practical, inexpensive and easy to follow. The seminar includes classroom instruction on criminal psychology, automobile crimes, cyber safety, home security, and a variety of crime prevention strategies including carjack avoidance techniques, use of personal safety devices, and more.

Home Firearms Safety Course

Duration: 4 Hours
Description:
This is a four-hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports.
